Melo Alves Sponsors the 19th Commercial Arbitration Centre Congress

Melo Alves is sponsoring the 19th Commercial Arbitration Centre Congress, organised by the Commercial Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, taking place on 2 and 3 July 2026 at the Great Hall of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Widely recognised as one of Portugal's leading arbitration events, the Congress brings together distinguished national and international practitioners to discuss the latest developments, challenges and best practices in commercial arbitration.

Under the theme "Strategy and Responsibility in Arbitration", this year's programme explores the role of the various participants in arbitral proceedings and the strategic considerations that arise in an increasingly demanding and complex environment. Topics include the liability of arbitrators and arbitral institutions, document production, efficiency and strategy in arbitration, and the analysis of landmark cases in international arbitration practice. As in previous editions, the Congress will also feature a Sub-40 session dedicated to the next generation of arbitration practitioners.

By supporting this initiative, Melo Alves reaffirms its commitment to arbitration as a preferred method of dispute resolution and to contributing to the ongoing development of arbitration practice and legal excellence.

Arbitration is one of Melo Alves' core practice areas within its Dispute Resolution practice. The firm's team advises clients in complex domestic and cross-border disputes before both state courts and arbitral tribunals. In this context, partner Cláudia Leonardo has extensive experience in litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on commercial and investment contracts, and has acted in a wide range of domestic and international commercial arbitrations.
