Cláudia Leonardo comments on the impact of the modern consumer on the insurance market

Partner Cláudia Leonardo participated in the supplement ‘Who's Who in Insurance’ published by the newspaper Jornal Económico.

On the subject of challenges to new behaviours and how the insurance market is adapting to changes in the profile of consumers, she said that the insurance market is adapting and has recently seen the emergence of the Insurtech(s) phenomenon, start-ups that use artificial technology, machine learning and blockchain tools to sell and manage insurance in a digital environment and that allow consumers a much more agile, unbureaucratic, autonomous and personalised experience in choosing, contracting and managing their insurance.

‘These companies have been springing up all over the place and are appearing not only as competitors to traditional insurers, but also as allies to them, providing them with services,’ emphasises the lawyer.

For Cláudia Leonardo, if supported by quality data and technology, ‘the personalisation of products can even increase the profitability of insurance products by facilitating greater adaptation to risk’. ‘The movement we've seen is that of the big insurance groups following the trends, which in any case still offer greater guarantees to consumers than the start-ups,’ concludes the Melo Alves partner.
