During the commentary segment on NOW’s news programme, Carlos Melo Alves highlighted the dangers of a potential parliamentary committee of inquiry, warning that this could expose highly confidential investigative methods.
According to the lawyer, the Judicial Police operate within a restricted environment: ‘It is a world of informants, a world of police collaborators, and that would have to be made public’, which would put the lives of informants and the investigative system at risk.
Regarding Luís Neves’s silence, Carlos Melo Alves considered it to be a strategy, stating that ‘what the minister is doing is allowing the public outcry to subside’ before making definitive statements on the case and the payment of the invoices.
